General Restrictions

We understand the unique needs of trucks and special vehicles. That is why we compiled these resources to ensure a safe and smooth trip on the six crossings owned and maintained by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

If you are traveling between New York and New Jersey in a truck or special vehicle, we ask that you familiarize yourself with the restrictions below. These restrictions include the transportation of hazardous materials, vehicle lengths, widths, heights, and weights. Violators are subject to a summons and a fine.

Rules and Regulations

The following printable truckers’ resources include: 1) the Port Authority’s Truckers’ Guide: a summary of restrictions, E-ZPass rates and discounts, and pertinent contact information that apply to trucks and special vehicles crossing Port Authority facilities; and 2) the Port Authority’s Traffic Rules and Regulations: a detailed guide on traffic rules and regulations for all vehicles crossing our bridges and tunnels.

For truckers completing business at the Port of New York & New Jersey, please reference the Port’s Trucker Resources webpage here. This site will help drayage truckers learn more about required driver credentials, resource guides, important contacts, and successfully navigate our marine terminals when visiting the Port.
