• Life/safety systems exceed the New York City Building Code and will become the basis for developing new standards for high-rise construction.
• Structural redundancy and dense, highly adhesive, cementitious fireproofing.
• Biological and chemical filtering of air-supply systems.
• Extra-wide pressurized stairs to provide optimum egress and firefighting capacity.
• Dedicated stairwell for emergency response, rescue and life safety.
• Each tenant floor will have areas of refuge.
• Multiple backups for emergency lighting and concrete protection for all sprinklers and for emergency risers.
• Interconnected redundant exits, additional stair exit locations at all adjacent streets and direct exits to the street from tower stairs.
• All of One World Trade Center’s life safety systems – egress stairs, communication antennae, exhaust and ventilation shafts, electrical risers, standpipes and elevators – are encased in a thick core wall. Elevators are housed in a protected central building core, serving every floor of the tower.
• Enhanced emergency communication cables for emergency responders and life safety teams.
• The tower’s setback from West Street was increased to an average of 90 feet in response to security concerns, and the lobby contains a baffle for increased security.
• A centralized Vehicular Security Center will serve the entire World Trade Center complex, through an underground network of roadways connecting delivery docks, providing secure and efficient handling of service vehicles.
• The World Trade Center will be served by an on-site Police Command Center.
• One World Trade Center will have a coordinated tenant security program, including 24/7 electronic access, electronic surveillance and uniformed security guards, electronic turnstiles, a messenger center and extensive CCTV coverage.
