2008 Summer Internship Program
About the Program
The Port Authority’s Summer Internship Program offers graduate and undergraduate students the opportunity to work side-by-side with knowledgeable and experienced experts in their field. As an intern with the Port Authority, you will be challenged by hands-on work assignments related to your major and through your work you will develop skills that will help you in almost any career, such as how to write effectively and how to work well as part of a team. During your 10-12 week summer experience, you will be provided with orientations and trainings to support your success. Additionally, interns with the Port Authority receive an hourly compensation that is based on their field of study and level of education. Interns with outstanding performance have moved into full-time positions with our Engineering/Architecture Trainee, Leadership Fellows or Accountant Training programs upon graduation.
Internship Description:
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey conceives, builds, operates, and maintains America’s busiest airports, bridges and tunnels, marine terminals and ports, bus terminals, and the PATH rail transit system. The diversity of our business creates a variety of opportunities for students to gain exposure to the work of a first-class, public agency.
Our Summer Internship Program offers two opportunities for students: Management Internships or Engineering/Architecture Internships.
Management Internships typically exist within the following departments:

Management interns with the Port Authority have supported their departments with critical projects such as analyzing regional demand data for our airports, conducting job analysis and interview assessments, reviewing and analyzing our annual budget, working on sustainability initiatives, designing marketing communications and developing operations plans for retail development.
Engineering/Architecture Internships are available for students studying in the following disciplines:

Interns will assist experienced engineers with the planning, design, construction management and supervision, materials testing and inspection, and information technology management for projects at various Port Authority facilities. Assignments are project-driven and task-oriented; your work will directly contribute to the Engineering Department’s commitment to excellence in engineering and architecture quality by delivering timely, cost-effective services.
Requirements:
The Port Authority seeks interns who are talented and driven and who have a genuine interest in contributing to the success of the New York/New Jersey region. We welcome applications from current graduate and undergraduate students from a variety of majors such as, Accounting, Architecture, Business Administration, Computer Science, Construction Management, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Human Resources, Industrial Engineering, Law/Criminal Justice, Marketing, Public Administration, Materials Management, Public Affairs/Government and Transportation. Successful candidates will be self-starters with excellent communication, research and applicable technical skills.
