The
Port of New York and New Jersey offers shippers
access to the largest, and most affluent market in America,
21 million consumers at its core and 100 million within a
day’s
truck drive. Six container operators move 4.8 million TEUs
(twenty-foot equivalent container units)annually – by
far the largest volume of container traffic on the East Coast
of North America. And the numbers are growing. In order to
maintain this resource and meet the ever-increasing market
demand for international goods, The Port Authority of New
York and New Jersey is in the midst of an extensive redevelopment
of the port to increase handling capacity. Our $2 billion
investment ensures container terminals are reconfigured for
maximum productivity and efficiency. Our on-dock rail capabilities
are expanding to improve
inland
access and
channels
and berths are deepened for superior
ocean access. By
advancing these
improvements,
we are working with our port partners and customers
to remain the largest port on the East Coast.
